Julie's app

It was interesting working on julies app as I really had to think about the visual aesthetic of the app.
I had to understand idea throughly to create a meaningful navigation. Her app is very commercial and
has a potential to do well if it is developed and designed interestingly. It also has a universal appeal.

Scan Memories, Multitouch, Andreaslut

The links this week were awesome.
I loved the way physical objects are used to create an interesting interface. The multi touch and
adreas added a third dimension browser. To create something like this I think one has to ignore everything
that we have learned "naturally", being born in a digital age and understand how would things work if we had to get in the system and do stuff manually.

Regarding the scan memories project I think it fascinated me as it has to do with archiving your memories that can be accessible after your death. But it would depresses me too. Its a great concept though.

Flow Chart Phase (1), Exhibit Kiosk

The reason for entering name, age, profession and Country is for archiving the Olfactive images.
An individual can view his olfactive images on the centre screen after the experience on kiosk.
Providing any visual in the kiosk space can  be influential.

note: Please check phase 2 flowchart. It is part of the process

Flow Chart Phase (2), Website

Website will act as an archive to all the activity that happened in exhibit space. Apart
from that it will also be a reference database for various designers ( product, space/architects ) and
non designers. It can be used to tap into an olfactory sense of a people.  For designer's it be an insight
to peoples olfactive/subconscious association, which can be considered before designing
a space or a product etc.

Craigslist

"Craglist redesign" is a great insight to developing a humungous project utility-vise and visually. Every step of redesigning
involves testing it on user and then polishing. The success of all the popular website or social network-site lies in how simple and user friendly they are and thus they under go constant changes in their appearance, tools and interface.

Joshua Davis

The ephemeral quality about joshua's electronically generated composition add a unique value to his process. Its exciting to create something that cannot be cloned and mass produced into cheap prints. He invents his process or tool every-time which then helps him to create a composition that is unique.

Designer of 2015 Trends

The six major trends forecasted in AIGA's article have been part of discussion in design community for a while now.  Studios like Continnum and Ideo practice some of these trends on a regular basis. I think it makes sense as boundaries of design are blurring day by day. Any complex design solution has to be multidisciplinary. Designers in future will have to gain an expertise in some of the other fields or learn the skill of harnessing various expertise for varied design problems. Perhaps the organizational structure  average design studio will be far from what we have today. It has always been fascinating to study how a typical design studio has changed in the sense of space from what it was before 30 years. for eg: rulers and light tables to computers to laptops etc).

Another interesting fact discussed in the article is the idea of sharing experience. Its fascinating to see how fast trends change in design. The mass customization was a rage before five years. The mere idea of customers being co-creator was like finding a holy grail as the complex problems of finding the likes and dislikes of your consumer would be less cumbersome. But I think the transparency that social network has brought surpasses all this because now it not just about changing and beautifying a product based on the consumers choice but also finding a right user for the invention of the product. It takes you closure to the vein of your targeted consumer.

The progress of design has always been mysteriously exciting as invention of technology has shaped a lot of its path. Different design disciplines might amalgamate into one "Super design discipline" to  solve complex problems effectively without the humungous amount of clutter that we churn everyday.
